Yevgeny Bolshakov

Born in Poltava, Ukraine in 1938.

Graduated with distinction from the Leningrad (Tauride) Art School and Moscow Institute of Printing Arts. Honoured Artist of Russia. Invited by Prof. Gennady Yepifanov in 1969 to join Aurora, a new publishing house specializing in publications on art for foreign markets. Worked in the design department, rising to become its head. From 1983 Chief Artist at Aurora. Worked with many Soviet-era publishing houses, including Iskusstvo, Khudozhnik RSFSR, Khudozhestvennaya literatura, Sovetskaya Rossiya, and Lenizdat

Has taken part in, and won prizes at, numerous book fairs both at home and abroad. Won bronze and silver medals at the Exhibition of Achievements in the People’s Economy of the USSR (1974, 1984). Awarded the For Labour Valour, Veteran of Labour and The Tercentenary of St Petersburg medals. Jury member for Leningrad and USSR-wide competitions for book design in the 1970s–90s. Chairman of the jury for the Leningrad “Art of the Book” competition from 1980 onwards. Member of the Artists’ Union of Russia and the St Petersburg Creative Union of Artists.
